Timber Sash Window Double-Glazed Upgrade for a West End Glasgow Conservation Home
Jim and Jules, homeowners in the West End of Glasgow, appointed MWM Matt Window Mate to upgrade the original single-glazed timber sash and case windows in their beautiful period villa. Situated within a conservation area, the property required a like-for-like replacement that was both planning-compliant and sympathetic to the historic character of the home.
Following a detailed design process and full planning approval, every stage of the project was carefully considered to remain faithful to the property’s original style while introducing modern energy-efficient glazing. This is a fine example of how contemporary performance can be achieved without compromising heritage aesthetics.
INSTALLATION APPROACH AND PHASED DELIVERY
The installation is being carried out in two phases to minimise disruption. The first phase, focused on the rear elevation, addressed the windows in the poorest condition to ensure improved insulation ahead of winter. The second phase, scheduled for June next year, will upgrade the front elevation to deliver a seamless finish across the entire property.
REPLICATED THE ORIGINAL DESIGN
Each window has been custom manufactured as a double-glazed, energy-efficient timber sash and case unit, complete with traditional astragal bars to replicate the original design. The final finish in Farrow & Ball ‘All White’ with satin chrome ironmongery complements the home beautifully. These new windows retain the authentic appearance while providing vastly improved insulation, reduced draughts and enhanced acoustic comfort.
Jim and Jules’ two Labradors — Chess and Bailey — were the perfect models for the final photoshoot, reflecting the warmth and comfort created by the newly improved windows.
