The owners of this beautiful blonde sandstone townhouse, built circa 1881 by H&D Barclay in the peaceful Hyndland area, contacted MWM Matt Window Mate to improve the heat loss and appearance of their windows.
This project demonstrates modern, superior design that retains the character and history of period properties. All works were expertly designed and installed by MWM Matt Window Mate.
Handcrafted Timber Sash Windows for a Perfect Like-for-Like Replacement
These bespoke timber sash windows were created to replicate the original features in newly installed double-glazed units. The existing stained glass was removed from the old single-glazed frames and restored in the studio. It was then encapsulated between two layers of double-glazed units so it could be preserved while replicating the authentic original detailing.
Every window in the property was replaced with handcrafted timber double-glazed sash windows, painted using Farrow & Ball and Zoffany heritage colours to complement the interior aesthetic.
The objective was not only to replace the windows but also to maximise visible glass area and provide the homeowner with the best possible views and daylight.
The result is a warm, quiet and beautifully upgraded home that retains every bit of its traditional charm.
