Located in a stunning seaside town on the West Coast of Scotland, this remarkable 19th-century sandstone villa has recently undergone a beautifully executed renovation. The homeowners carefully redesigned their impressive B-listed property into a refined and relaxing family home while retaining the elegance and character that define traditional Scottish architecture.
MWM Matt Window Mate was invited to improve the performance of the property’s original sash and case windows, ensuring smoother operation, increased comfort and enhanced thermal efficiency while preserving the period aesthetic that the owners wished to protect.
Project Overview and Results
Many of the original sash windows were difficult to open, draughty and inefficient, making the home colder during coastal weather. Our team carried out extensive repairs and operational upgrades to restore full useability, along with the installation of a discreet draught-proofing and noise-reduction system. This significantly improved comfort, reduced heat loss and retained the timeless charm of the original timber windows.
One notable challenge included fitting tinted privacy glass into the sash window of the sauna room — providing natural light while maintaining full privacy. In total, our team worked on more than fifty traditional timber sash windows, including newly crafted units installed into original openings to introduce additional natural light while matching the existing profiles perfectly.
The completed transformation has delivered a warmer, quieter and more energy-efficient home while protecting the authentic architectural character of this exceptional coastal villa.
