The original timber sash and case windows of this significant sandstone detached villa in Pollokshields, Glasgow, have been given a bright new outlook thanks to the expert team at MWM Matt Window Mate. Located within a Conservation Area in the Southside of Glasgow, retaining the architectural integrity and historic appearance of the home was essential. For the homeowners, maintaining the original aesthetic was the highest priority.

During the initial inspection, it became clear that the existing sash windows were in very poor condition, with several external sills completely rotten and frames suffering from significant deterioration. In total, 20 traditional sash and case windows required complex specialist work to bring them back to a high standard.

Following a comprehensive renovation programme, MWM Matt Window Mate installed the Professional Weather Seal System to significantly improve window performance and ensure long-term reliability. The upgrade delivered warmer and quieter rooms by eliminating draughts and rattles, enhancing insulation, preventing dust and dirt ingress, and restoring smooth window operation. The windows were then finished with the contemporary shade “Merlin” by Dulux Trade, giving the home a refined modern appearance while remaining respectful to the building’s historic character.

The project also included the restoration and upgrade of the villa’s original storm door, which was transformed both aesthetically and functionally with the installation of a high-performance draught-proofing system, resulting in a more energy-efficient and visually impressive entrance.
