Struan and Sara, residents of this charming traditional upper conversion in the highly sought-after Strathbungo area in Glasgow’s Southside, invited MWM Matt Window Mate to give their original sash windows much-needed expert attention.
Like many period properties, their windows suffered from common issues associated with ageing timber sash windows — including rot, draughts, rattling and several windows painted shut — making them difficult to operate and preventing the homeowners from enjoying the beauty and functionality of their traditional windows.
Preserving the historic character of the home was a priority, while ensuring the windows were fully operational, draught-free, and built to last for many years ahead.
Specialist Restoration and Draught-Proofing
The renovation began with removing and replacing areas of rot within the frames of seven sash windows. Each sash was re-weighed and carefully adjusted to ensure smooth and effortless operation.
A professional draught-proofing system was installed to eliminate draughts and rattling, greatly improve energy efficiency, and reduce external noise — delivering a much warmer and more comfortable living environment.
To complete the transformation, mastic pointing was replaced around all windows, followed by final painting for a beautifully crisp finish.
New period sash bars added to the front-facing windows further enhanced the character and kerb appeal of the property.
